THE RAINFALL.
DRY WEATHER SUITED LAMBS. There have been soma very fine showers of rain lately in the Wairarapa and Bush Districts, but mostly in the areas covered by .the dairy farms. Out on the coast and farther north there is still a general demand for rain. Creeks and_ streams are lower than they were this time last year, and continued downpours are required during the next six weeks to make up for the deficiency. Sheep all round are thriving under these conditions, but cattle continue to be in poor condition. The dry season has been favourable for the lambing, the mortality being very little more than i per cent. Hoggets in Hawke's Bay have had their best season for years. Ploughing is still being con-tinued-all over the country, and, taken all round, the'area under crops should this season prove to be a record. Oats are being grown very extensively in the Masterton district. All the dairy factory managers report satisfactory daily increases in tne milk supply.
