MASTERTON RACING CLUB'S SPRINO MEETING.
The programme for the spring meeting of tho. Masterton Racing Club appears in this issue, and a perusal thereof will show that the club Eas substantially increased the stakes in a couplo of races since last season. : The meeting is set down for, October *29 and 30, the week prior to the New Zealand Cup fixture; Though the majority of tho races. aro for hacks, a couplo of well endowed open handicaps figure on the programme of each day. The ! Masterton Cup aa's this year been increased to. 250 sov.s,, and, is still rvin over .a , mile and i quarter, a popular distance ,;>;ith owners.,' Other open events are the. President's Handicap, of 150 sovs., one mile' 1 and a distance; Publican 1 s Handicap, 0f',120: sovs., seven , furlongs; and the Stewards' Handicap, of 100 so vs., six furloiigs; In place of tho Hack Sourrjf) on the second day, a Hunters' Handicap has been substituted. This event is to be run oyer a mile and three-quarters, and is for qualified hunters to be riddon by gentlemen riders. The other hack events all unaltered. Nominations for all - events, except the Maiden' Scurry, close with the secretary, Mr. A.' Hathaway, at his office, Lincoln Road, Masterton, on Friday,' October. 9, 1908, at 9.30 p.m. '
