STOCK EXCHANGE.' (sr TELEGiurn—ri'.Ess association.) . Dunedin, September 23. Stock Exchange sales: Mamtfierikia (2 parcels), 10s. F TALISMAN MINE: TILE SEAT OF CONTROL. (BY TELEGICAm, SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.! , „ Auckland, September 23. shareholder writes in connection with th° Talisman Mine affairs as follows:-'I notice that a number of messages havo been received from .Wellington, through tho medium v J i i. ross Asaocl ation, and have been published here, giving, what in many quarters is assumed to bo official information regarding tno management and development of the Talisman Mine. This morning wo read that 'tho Wellington committee has received information from Mr. Stansfield that tho plans and estimates tor the new pumping plant were cabled lor the boards approval on Saturday.' Wo were also informed in the same message that on baturday the water had reached within -it. trom the point where the pumps wero ready to continue work in No. 12"level. Of 00, , 1 . r | e > ,™ s is ™ry interesting (especially the notification that tho 'plans' had been cabled to London), but I would liko to know whether •I 10 i??i at . torn °3' s ° r the local committee, if 13 mi received similar information. Possibly thore may bo some reasonable explanation why wo in Auckland, where tho local office of tho company exists, are being continually enlightened by messages emanating froin \\ ellingrtoii; but in - tho absence of any published reasons'the man in the street naturally wonders if these Wellington telograuis are inspired by certain pcoplo who-are insidiously endeavouring to' remove the local offico to the Empire City. If -such is the case, it is -just as well that tho fact should be widely known." OLD HAUHAia. :
The possibilities that, the, discovery at "tho Old Hauraki Mine have opened up are very great, arid it has an important bearing upon tho future of the mine as a.whole!'- The ap-plication-of the rule for tho recovery.-of'.lost' lodes has resulted .in Leggo's reef being found beyond tho .slide, and it is reasonable to assume that other reefs that havo been-displayed in other parts' of the mine can be located in liko manner. With regard to Leggo's reef, at the point whore it has. been recovered,- it is gathered that the class of ore and country and the mineral indications aro all favourable for gold. Tho lode, howevor, is not altogether clear of the . disturbance, but is graduallv assuming its course. The" fact, of other reefs having yielded rich gold beyond the slide shows that the precious metal was deposited prior to the faulting/ This increases the probability of gold being won now; that the reef has, been found.. The discovery is important, and is calculated to give tho mine a new lease of life. ... ' TOICATEA MINE. Work in connection with tho further development of tho rich mineral vein in tho Tribute level drivo on Wood's leader-of tho-.Tokatea Mino, Coromaridel, is proceeding. The'north drivo was extended Gft. last, week, and tho manager reports that. tlib country is improving. The leader. ha 9 opened out. to. 2in. in width, and is carrying pood dish prospects. 'The riiantigor states that ho exports .to sen gold in the stone at any- breaking down. . This face will bo. pushed ahead for another 20ft. before 'continuing., to take out ( tlib leading stope, whore the gold was loft,,showing at the' point where tho minorql load: strikes .tlib leader. In the meantime a start has been made to take out a'second sto.pe' above-the leadirig. stope, and this .has been carried .along ,Bft. .towards wh?.rn the mineral, vein sliould\bb cut: .'At the road level; 70ft. bolow, .thb : .leader'' ; inv the loading stopo looks very promising, and still carries dish prospects.,:. . ..
