I'EILDING. Mr. King A. Foster, twenty-one years of ago, a son of Jlr. and Mrs. T. W. K. Foster, died at their home on Sunday. He was born in Feilding, and had spent tho whole of his lifetime here. Tho Wanganui Education Board has purchased nearly tlireo acres at Makowliai for a school sit-o, l'or £100. Tho purchase was arranged by Jlr. F. Purnell. Mr. A. Williamson, who has been for a trip to tlio South Sea Islands, has returned to Feilding, bringing with him a collection of shells, ctc./'for the museum. On Sunday the Rev. H. S. Wilson, secretary of tho Wanganui Christian Convention, began a series of meetings in the Baptist Church in Feilding. Messrs. W. G. Bayliss, W. Darragh, W. J. Honore, Harold Jarvis, James Penny, and E. R. Ransom have been nominated for the Rongotea Town Board. The election will be held on Wednesday. The Feilding Tennis Club's grass courts, which havo been top-dressed during the offseason, are getting into first-class order, though their condition will necessitate an opening day a littlo later than usual. Tho Oroua.Tennis Club, whose members play on asphalt courts, have fixed their opening day for tho first Wednesday in October GEEYTOWN. Through the falling of a mammoth kerosene lamp in St. Luke's Church, Greytown, on Sunday evening last, somo £12 worth of damage was done. The verger had just lit tho lamp prior to the evening service, when the cord by which it was suspended gave way, and the lamp fell on the floor and exploded, causing an immense flame, which spread over the carpet. But for Mr. W. R. Thompson's smartness in- putting tho flame out, serious oon sequences would no doubt have followed. FEATHERSTON. The local bowling green is in capital condition at the present timo. Tho Gun Club fired four sweepstake matches on Saturday afternoon in grand weather conditions. The first sweep was won by Geo. Burt, who scored 24 out of a possible 36. 11. Jensen (22) was second, and J. S. Laurcnson (18) third. In the second sweep T. Skipage was first with a score of 24, H. Jensen and J. S. Laurcnson (23 each) dividing second and third stake. T. Skipage scored 15 out of 18 for first placo in the third sweep, H. Bockctt (11) being second, and H. Jensen (10) third. The fourth sweep was won by J. S. Laurcnson with a score of 15. T. Skipage and M. ITyland (11) tied for second honours, Ilyland winning tho shoot-off. A double rise was won by H. Boekett. ' . The first jubilee of the Wellington dioceso is to be celebrated in tho Wairarapa on September 29, when a special service will bo held iu St. Matthew's Church, Mastcrton.
