CITY COUNCIL.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES; The City Council met last evening. ' Prosent:—The Mayor (the Hon. T. W. Hislop), Councillors Luko, Smith, Cohen,"Ballinger, Hales, Shirtclilfe, Biss, Fletcher! Fisher, M.P., and M'Laren. . A Special Order was passed relating to the surrender of leases of Sections 57a and 59a, Lambton Reclaimed Land, now held by Mr. W. H. S. Moorhouse, and granting new leases in lieu thereof. ~ The Abattoirs, Milk Supply, and Public Health Committee recommended' That notices be served in accordance with the recommendations of the Public Health Department upon owners and occupiers of premises in Lornp Street and . Aurora Terrace. Tho report was adopted. ' ; The Baths and City Reserves Committee recommended:—That the wages of, Messrs. Coate, Sutton, and Vernon, employees' at the 1 ' Karon Cemetery, . be' increased by 6d. per day, i.e.', from'Bs. to Bs. 6d. per day, and that the wages of Mr. G. Kay, , sexton .of the Karori Cemetery, be increased by os. per weok, That the reserves bo closed for football after Saturday week, September 19., That bathing sheds be crected at the Kilbir-' ilie beach arid Island Bay. That accounts amounting to £29 ss. sd. be .passed for payment. The committee reported that a rearrangement of tile duties of the, caretaker of' the Botanical Gardens had 'boeii effected, and, in consequence, the committee recommended that in future his wages be £3 per week of seven days, with no extra payment for overtime or Sunday duty. The report was adopted. v . ' The By-Laws and Street-Lighting Committee recommended that the following'lamps be erected:—Wade and Pitt; Streets, Wadestown, one lamp each; Basin Reserve, ,three, lamps; Macdonald Crescent, one lamp, and lamp, No. 88 to be shifted 30 yards eastward. That- a candidate be -granted an extension'' of time of one . month'from his return from Australia, in which to be examined for his : plumber's license. That .permission, to make temporary access to his dwelling in Bruce Avenue, Brookljyi.jbe.igrarited.to Mr. ,W.' J*' Parsons. That the necessary legal notice be: served on the owners of properties in •Karori Road whose fdii~c:es'* , are'~ericroaciung on tho street boundary, to set same back forthwith. The'report was Adopted.' ,: The Finance and Property Gommittee recommended:—That the- application of' the Battalion Band for. inclusion in' the list of subsidised bands be held over until the new yearns list is being drawn up. ' That a compassionate allowance of £100 :be granted.', to Mrst Hastwell, widow of a late Corporation officer. That a bonus' of ££0 be granted to Mr. W. J. Foster, oh . the determination •of his employment in the Engineer's Depart- ; ment. That accounts amounting to £26,477 17b; lOd. be passed for'payment.' The committee reported- that they had received a letter from the Karori Borough Council, asking the council' to co-operate j with the borough in forming- the recreation" ground at Karori, but the committee recommended that provision be first made for tho completion of tho city works now in hand, before co-operating with; the borough. ..
