Timaru, September 10. ■William .Leckiss, a single mail, aged 70, who had been suffering from a weak heart for some time, dropped dead in George Street at mid-day. A. NASTY ACCIDENT. Inuercargill, September 10. ' At the Edendale dairy factory yesterday, Mr. John Sawors, • of cheese-making fame, was the victim of a. nasty accident, fle had disconnected the belting to throw tho machinery out of gear when the . belt caught on a projection on the shaft and drew Jiim up, uaclly smashing a log. There is some fear that amputation will bo necessary. i FALL THROUGH A WINDOW. Asilburton,, September 10. A man named Charles Kinross, while skylarking with companions at Methven, 1 fell through a window,-severing the-musclcs and blood-vessels of the wrist. He was taken to\the hospital, where he is now progressing satisfactorily. DREDGE BRINGS UP HUMAN REMAINS. Wanganui, September 10. This morning a gruesome haul was .made by the dredge while working. ill the river, between the town and the heads, a human leg, part of a trunk, and some clothing being brought up by the buckets. The remains are supposed to bo those of a young mail named Mason; who committed, suicide by drowning about twelve months ago, and who left on the river bank' a. handkerchief tied to a willow tree, a Bible containing his name, and a watch. He had no known relations in the Dominion. FOUND DEAD. Chrlstchurch, September 10. Richard Taylor (4G years of age) a cabdriver, residing in Milton Street, Sydenham, was found dead in his house about ten o'clock this morning. He was unmarried, and lived alone. He had been unwell for two or three days, and about noon yesterday complained to a neighbour that lie was suffering from terrible pains. When the neighbour wont to Taylor's house this morning she found him sitting' in his chair : dead. He had apparently died without a struggle, as otherwise ho would have fallen oil the chair. An inquest was held, when a verdict of death from heart disease was returned. A married woman named Mildro.d Butler, residing at No. 12 North Street," was ad- | mitted to tho hospital yesterday evening sufforing from a severe sealp wound caused by a fall. ■
