Tlio police were forced to draw their batons iu order to rescuo Mrs. Pankhurst, one of tho suffragist leaders, from a hostile crowd of GOOO. Several persons were badly mauled during tho police .rushes. . Tho London police have had more experience in arresting than_ in rescuing suffragists, but nevertheless pleasing "amenities" have from time to timo occurred between the martyrs and the minions of the oppressor. The suffragists, according to a London paper, recently postponed ono of their demonstrations on hearing that, it would clash 'with a bazaar in aid of a police fund; moreover, they went along to tho bazaar, and. bought things, and chattcd to Mrs, Policoman and tho children.
