MEETING .OF COUNCIL. 'A meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Rowing. Association was hold last evcn:ing,. .Mr.Y'.KL AY. .;M',Villy presiding. . The other members present were:—Messrs. G. W. Lachlan. R. il-.-Isaacs, AV. Coffey, J. E. Widdop, and A. D., Bayfield. A letter,; was .received from the Ngaruawahia Rowing Club regarding an appeal they had made-protesting-against the action of ,the, .Auckland Centre, in striking a race out of the regatta; programme. Tlio secretary of the club also; dreiv : attention to the fact that .there ■ were . six clubs south of Auckland—viz., Rotorua, Hauraki, Kopu, Hamilton, '.' 11111111/,'"and;Ngaruawahia. Ho suggested that, as the representation of country clubs on the Auckland Association was not at' preseiit' satisfactory, a centre should be fonned in Waikato. In connection with tho appeal made 1 by 'tho Ngaruawahia Club, the Auckland Association .wrote giving somo particulars asked for by the. council. It was dccided to write for further explanation of some matters; before : coming to any decision in regard to the- appeal. The suggestion concerning a centrc at , "Waikato was placed on the order, paper for the annual meeting. Mr. W. T.. Glasgow,j secretary of tlio Department .' of " Trade and . Customs, wrote advising'.that'a sum .Would bo placed on tho Supplementary Estimates for refund of duty on all racing boats imported during the past year.'' Other';correspondence was received, including 1 nominations of delegates for the annual ■meeting,'and'-romits for the order paper.-. < . ; .. , .. . After some discussion, the date of tho annual meeting was fixed for Octobcr 10. Tho balance-sheet passed by the meeting showed a profit of.£9 Bs. Gd., which made the credit balance for tho year £101 6s. 7d., including. .£92,:85, 'Id.;:brought forward from last year. The report to bo presented at the annual meeting, and which was passed by the council, states that tho' active membership of affiliated clubs is 2735. Four new clubs were affiliated during the year —namely, Kopuj Rotorua, Wairoa/aiid Lake George. Particulars are given of the regattas held in the Dominion duriiig'the year; also of rules passed at . last meeting', of delegates and now embodied in; tho rules of tho association. Mention is made of the new Customs tariff. An ad valorem duty of 20 per cent, was imposed on all racing boats imported into tho Dominion Since.; orders liad been placed in Australia-before'tho new tariff was published,'the. increase pressed heavily on tho clubs, and, on a deputation from the council waiting. on the Minister for Customs and pointing this out to him, a refund of duty for all. boats imported; during the past year was provided for.
