FIGHTING IN PONAPE
WHITES ALARMED. (BT TELEGEirH—I'EESS ASSOCIATION—COPTRIGHT.) Sydney, September 7. Island news shows that inter-tribal fighting is progressing on tho Island of Ponape. The whito residents are alarmed, and havo asked for protection. Tho German authorities in New Britain have dispatched 'a punitive expedition of 100 police. Ponape is in the Caroline Islands, which Spain sold to Germany in 1599.
