, The golf tournament was, brought to a very, pleasant ending by. a small informal [ dance given by Captain Lyon and Captain Ualthorno-Hardy on Friday .'evening. The Opera ;Houso Hall was quite transformed, tho decorations being particularly effective, f dancing s P ac e was considerably reduced to allow about half tho largo hall to bo turned into a very ornamental drawingroom, decorated with palms and a beautiful array of spring flowors.. There were over seventy guests, and dancing was kept-up till nearly two o'clock, supper being served about eleven o'clock. Tho guests included a number of the visiting golfers, tho Hon. Kathleen Plunket and Mrs. Waterfield being also present. The,former's handsome empire dress « was •or gold tissue over. white, .and jvirs.' \\atorfjcld was in a 1 very becoming black dress, with white on bodice. Among other effective frocks were thoso worn by Miss. Una Williams,- a lovely painted chiffon with, silver bertlio, and Miss Eila 'Williams, a handsome blue silk. Mrs. Francis Hewitt woro her wedding, dress, as did also Mrs. Harold Abraham. . Miss. Cooper. (Wellington) wore floral, silk; Miss Snow, bright pmkwth white •' tullo bodico; Miss A Humphries, handsome oyster satin' trimmed with pearl embroidered lace; Miss H. Denniston, white satin with trimmings of gold cord and tassels; Miss Fen ton, graceful gown ° f cr eam net over satin, and pale pink sash; Mrs. (Dr.) Wilson, rose-coloured tullo robo with lattice work of soutache braid of deeper shade worked on rose filet not. Most of the visiting golfers left on Saturday,_ some going on to tho tournament in Napier. J'ho Opera House was crowded on Thursday for the concert by the Orchestral Society, which was particularly. good. Mrs. IV Larcomb, who was the vocalist, wore a dainty frock of pale blue silk with vest and sleeves of white .net. Among the audionco were Her Excellency Lady Plunket, wearing a, handsome coat of sky-blue moire silk, trimmed with velvet and rich lace; Miss Cooper, in cream, gown and white furs; Miss Williams, long theatre coat of nattier blue; Mrs. Porritt, pretty frock of blue silk; Mrs. Porter, black silk muslin; and Mrs. Colbeck, cream gown with lemoncoloured cloak.
