Mrs. Tweed, Mrs. Biss, and Miss L. Brandon returned to town on Saturday night from ltototaiwa, whore tlioy had been staying for tho golf tournament-. Miss L. Brandon carried off tho Rototaiwa championship. '■ Soveral Wellington ladies aro going up to Masterton this week-for, the county ball, which is the great social event of tho season in -Masterton.
Miss 11. E. Feist, who has been for the past four years teaching at tho Eastbourne School, has been appointed to the Mount Cook Infants' School. On Friday afternoon Messrs.' J. Coombo and Barr, members of the School Committee, visited tho schoolto bid her farowcll, and, oil behalf of tho children and'tho headmaster, presented her with a dressing-case and peggy-bag, at the sn'mo time expressing their appreciation of tho work sho had done whilo teaching at the school. . . '
. The flowers this year, violets, daffodils, and primroses, have done a great work for charity. They have been sold to help tho missionaries on their way to lands where flowers are more plentiful than tho Christian graces; thoy have done their sliaro in enlarging a playground, building a Sunday school, and furnishing a hostel, and ever so many more strenuous actions have been pushed along by the fragile blossoms. This evening they are to bo hard at work again, this time at their most congenial tack, helping the little sick children. , At tho con-, cert, in the Town Hall, in aid, of Mother Mary's Homo of Compassion, the flowers will stand about tho vestibulo before the concert, and during the interval they will march up and down tho hall, seeking for purchasers among the wise women, who go prepared with extra coins. .
Tliere were two weddings of interest at Pahiatua last AVednesday, writes our correspondent. At St. Peter's Anglican Church tho Rov. C. H. Isaacson married Mr. George Grange, of. Nirbaha, 'and Miss Alma'Nicholls,' only daughter of Mr. F. L. ..Nicholls, of Napier. At Oaklands Farm, Miss Janet .Robinson, third daughter of Mr. ■U; Robinson, was married by the Rev. Chalmers Mill to Mr. Charles Robertson. ,An enjoyable social and . dance was given on Friday night by Misses Stanford and Nealon, Maranui, in Mr. Campbell's liew house, when about 25 couples were present. The dining room was converted into a ballroom, and tho supper was served 'in a small room behind, the tables being very prettily decorated. Musical items were provided by Mrs., Brown, Mrs. Joseph, Miss Marchall, Messrs. Campbell,. Berry, Stanford, and iNealon and Mrs.' Martifl, of Oamaru, danced a Highland fling. James, of Leeds, Jingland, was married to.Mr. G. Dransfield of Yorkshire, England. The bride, who. was given away by Mr. Hopkins, was dressed in a.costume of grey.silk,. trimmed with LimeJa co - Mr . Bradbury acted as best man, and tho Rov. J D.-Russoll officiated. After tho.corcmonv. the guests were entertained at a wedding breakfast at.- tho houso of Mr. Hopkins, Adelaide Street, Potone.
