November 9. —Waverley - W;iitotara , R.Q, Annual. NOTES AND COMMENTS. , : The St. Lcger Stakes, of 6500 sovs., comes up for decision in England^next Wednesday. Royal Bluo was very lame after tho big race at Marten on Wednesday, and inay h-avo to bo spoiled for somo considerable time. •. The trainer of Etesian was so disappointed with the manner in which the Sou'-wester mare performed at tho Wanganui Hunt Club smeeting that ho decided it would bo useless to take her to Marton, and. it ..is_ probable that she will not be persovered with. Valiroa went lame in the ■ shoulder after tho Wanganui Hunt Club meeting, and has been returned to her owner. Lady Stockwell, who has been turned out since January last, is 'to be taken in hand again this week, and if she fails* to stand a preparation sbo will be retired to the stud. Since Audan won his races at-the'Grand-National meeting, the owner 6t Lady J Stocks well has received a couple of, tempting : offere for tho half-sister to the winner of the Lincoln Steeples, but he ,refused i to part withthe mare. _ H. Eva informed me at the, meeting that the New Zealand. Cup candidate Uhlando was giving every satisfaction in his preparation at New Plymouth, and it is possible that the son of Uhlan will bo given a run at tho Wanganui spring meeting. R. Barlow has been engaged to. ride Uhlando in the New Zealand .Cup, and the Masterton lightweight, Fred;; Cress; • is-to have tho mount on Glenullin. •- The St. Ambrose—Fanna colt is doing goodwork on the tracks at Riccarton. The-half-brother to Nova will most likely mako his first appearance in tho Weloome Stakes in November. Llanwern was tho only Trontham candidate to securo n win fit tne Wanganui meeting. Roosevelt was unlucky enough ,to run a second on each day. ■ Gaelic was perhaps the most unlucky horso at the meeting. Ho ran very creditably on tho first day after starting bn tho'extreme outside of tho big field in the Marton'Handicap. On the second day he- got shut in for a few strides at a critical stage of tho race, otherwise he might hare turned the tables on Maharanui.

The Feilding Jockey Club lias erected an ambulnnce room on its racecourse. The building, which is about the same sizo as the ono at Trentham, is situated in the trees near tho seven-furlong post, and is fitted with all nccossary appliances. Tho annual race meeting, of the Horo-. whonua Hack' Racing Club will bo held at Lovin on Wednesday and Thursday next; Some good horses are engaged at tho meet ing, and interesting sport should be seen.' Tho tracks at Levin aro- looking at-their best just now, the recent . spoU of - fine ■ weather and sunshine having .proved beneficial to the grass and to the shrubs and flowers. . WAVERLEY«WAITOTARA RACING CLUB, meetinc. r Tho Wavorl'oy-Waitotara Racing-Club! will hold-their annual raco meeting "for hacks-at Waverley on November 9. ' ..As usual, the club is giving excellent stakes for the different events, and the programme, which comprises events of all distances from- four, fur-; ■ longs to one milo-and a, quartojr,,,.gives', owners a splendid opportunity of their horses to advantage. -'i-The principal cvont at the meeting is the,,Waverley Waitcrtara Cup, of 105 sovs., which js run oyer; n milo and a quarter courso. ■ The ■ otherevonts aro tho Morton Memorial Maiden, seven furlongs; Flying Handicap,, 6is .furlongs ; Wilson Stakes, four furlongs; Prince of Wales Handicap, seven furlongs Jackson Stakes, four furlongs; 'Momohaki Stakes, one mile and a distance; -,apd the. Handicap Hurdles, one mile and.-,a half ._ Each of these .evonts i 8 of'this value.-of 60 sovs. Uhlando,, Dusky Morn, Immolation, and Tan San were among the'competitors at last soason's fixture, and liberal prizemonoy offered.by the club should, again attract the best of tho North Island hacks; Nominations for all events'.l'xiloso "at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 19,'wftji thp" secretary, Jlr. J. W. Emmerson, at his ofliccv,AYarerloy. SIRES OF THE SEASON.- \ " JOE CHAMBERLAIN. ■/, •- f; " The thoroughbred stallion " jbo'.:Chamber-. lain is to stand the season at. Mangaihaire, Pahiatua, and breeders in that district .are fortunato in having tho services of; this good horse at a moderato fee.' Though Joe Chamberlain could never bo given a thorough preparation, owing to an accident, which, be-, fell him prior to his being; broken " in, yet he won a number of races,."and some -of .his performances read excellently. His two most important victories were achieved at Feilding in 1904, when ho won'tho St."Andrew's Handicap and tho Manchester Handicap, defeating among others Cannie. Cbiel, Armistice, Jeanne D'Arc, Convoy, and.SliiajJnel. In tho first-named event• he;, covered the milo and a half in 2min. 35 2-Sse first-class performance. Ho is by Bonnie Scotland from Lady D'Eau,..and-comes of. Brucc Lowe's No. (2) family, whichhas been .represented in tho Dominion ;by. Hotcli-. kiss (sire of Multiform, True Blue, Uniform,-, etc), Vanguard (siro of Advance,-Vedette,--and Tho Guard), Conqueror, Lctho,, and minv other successful sires.. Joo Chamberlsiin is, further, a direct, descendant .of E'l Aviint (dam of Vanguard), and as he is alsT well-bred on the sire's, side, and is a horso showing plenty of quality, ho.. can scarooly fail to get good stock. It may be mentioned that his young stock are' full of promise, and as ho stands .at a ' --low figuro.his list should fill quicjkly,.;,,. .. ACCEPTANCES FOR NEW ZEALAND COP.
