At the meeting of the Recreation Sports Ground Committco the following lotter was considored: — " On behalf of tho committee of the Taranaki team to play under Northern Rugby Union rules I beg to apply for the use of tho grounds on Thursday, September 10, and to make a charge for admission. I would especially point out tho reason for forming tli'e team is that a largo section of the public iiio anxious to seo a gamo under Northern Rugby Union rulos, and have approached us on tho matter. "Thomas Percy Smith (for tho committee of tho Tarnnaki Northorn Union team)." The letter caused considerable discussion The members of tho committco folt that tho New Zealand Itugby Union from whom such a largo amount of monoy had been obtained for tho ground, should have a voico in tho, matter. Eventually it was decided that the committee would grant the use of the ground provided the New _ Zealand Union did not object.' An intimation has now been rccoived that that body does object to the use of tho ground being granted to the Northern Union team, and would probably disqualify tho ground for amateur matches if it were so lot.
