THE HOUSE.
DEATH OF MR. A. D. WILLIS. The House met at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The PRIME MINISTER referred brielly to '.he death of the late Mr. A. D. Willis. Ho moved that tho House record its hirii senso of the services rendered by tho deceased, a former member of the House, to the country, and'their sense of the loss the country had sustained by liis' death; also that tho sincere sympathy of tho House be extended to the deceased's relatives.
Sir Joseph Ward continued that ho was suro ho was voicing tho feelings of all presont in this motion of regret. The deceased had been olected to tho lfouso on tho death of his predecessor, tho lato Hon. J. 'Hallance, in 1893, and ho had sat for a long period of years. Ho had been an active worker, and had taken groat interest in tho affairs of tho country. Tho Primo Minister reforred also to tho strength of character of tho deceased, which _ had enabled him to win through to prominence from very small beginnings, and to the fino record ho had left behind. . , Mr. W.E. MASSEY (Loader of tho Opposition) seconded tho motion, and said tho deceased had been ono of tho popular members" of tho Houso, and ono who was highly respectcd. Mr. J. T. HOGAN (Wangaijui) mado a. feeling rcforence to tho deceased, and eulogised his integrity of character, also detailing tho public positions ho had occupicd. Tho motion was carried.
