THE NEW GUINEA MISSION.
A lantom lccturo on the-New Guinea Mission is to bo given in St. Thomas's Schoolroom, Riddifora Street, to-morrow evening by Mrs. Cloughcr, of Nelson.' The mission was founded in 1891, when the Revs. Albert Maclaren and Copland King landed at Burtlo Bay, and commepced work at Dogur.v Canon Stonc-Wigg, of' Brisbane, was consecrated first Bishop of New Guinea in 1893, the number of nativo Christians at that timo boing seventeen. t Since then Hie work lias gono steadily forward, and. th' short history of the mission could furuish a record of arduous toil and self-sacrificing .devotion which cannot bo . surpassed and is rarely equalled. Mrs. Clougher visited the mission about two years ago, and is' therefore competent to speak .of .its oper»tions from personal observation, and as she has with her an cxcellcnt collection of lantern slides, illustrating tho beautiful scenery of New, Guinea, tho manners and customs of tho natives, and tho ijiission work, the lecture iB sure to bo of more than ordinary interest, and should attracts large audience.
