THEFT OP KNIVES. Ernest Mallioel, on remand, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having on August 29 stolon four table knives, value 45., the property of I-lenry M'Lelland, proprietor of tho Elito Supper Rooms, Vivian Street. Accused pleaded not guilty, but after hearing the evidence his Worship remarked that the theft was rather a mean one, and entorod d conviction and fino of 20s. and costs 135., in default seven days' imprisonment. Mr. O'Leary appeared for tho dofenco. A BREACH OF THE PEACE. Henry Jas. Wren and Harry Tamm both pleaded guilty to n. chargo of behaving in a manner in Ghuzneo Street , whoreby a broach of tho peace, was occasioned. Defendant "Wren also pleaded guilty to. a charge of having used obscene language. 1 Tho ~ two accused were seen fighting furiously in Ghuzneo Street, and when a constable interfered Wren used tho languago complained of. Tamm ivas. convicted and fined £3 and costs Bs., in default 14 days' imprisonment. AVren was couvictod and fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment, on the first charge, and on the second charge was convicted and fined £4, in default 21 days' imprisonment. MISCELLANEOUS. John Hyams, alias Hind, alias Hines, was convicted and fined 55., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for insobriety, and was convicted and fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, for travelling in a, : train from Wellington to Ngahauranga and back to Wellington without paying his fare and with intent to evade payment thereof. , Wm. M'Lean was convicted and fined 205., l'n default seven days' imprisonment, for insobriety. Two first offenders were convicted and discharged, one of them consenting _to tako out a prohibition order against himself. BY-LAW CASES. OFFENSIVE RUBBISH. Walter L. Colo pleaded.guilty to a charge of having on August 22 allowed offensive rubbish to remain on premises No. 385 Taranaki Street. Evidence was' given by a corporation inspector who visited tho premises that there was a quantity of rubbish in tho back yard from which an offensive smell arose. Since the complaint had been made the yard had been cleaned up. His Worship said defendant would have to be penalised as a warning to others. He would bo convicted and fined 10s. and costs 75., in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Mr. A. R. Atkinson appeared for the defence. Frank Williams was convicted and'fined ss. ~ and costs 75., in default 24' hours' imprisonment, for leaving a vehiclo standing in Tory Street. (Beforo Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M.) The partly heard action, Gcorgo Edward Odin (Mr. J. J. M'Grath)' versus Maurice O'Sullivan and Annio O'Sullivan (Mr. Luckic) in connection- with the sale and purchaso of a section of land and a house at Brooklyn was'advanced a further stage yesterday. Tho Court was engaged tho whole afternoon hearing the ovidence of the defendants and two architects. Tho case was eventually further adjourned until 10 a.m. on Monday, when it will bo concluded. .At tho Mount Cook Police Court yesterday, beforo. Dr. Macltin, J.P., Clara Brannigan, for drunkner.ness, was fined 40s. or fourteen days' imprisonment, and Ruby Kirk, for tho same offence, was fined 10s. or forty-eight hours' imprisonment. * Seven first offenders for drunkenness woro fined ss. or twenty-four hours' imprisonment.
