In conncction with the leper island of Moturakau, an incident that occurred two weeks ago is reported, The wife of one of the lepers lives ou the ituunlainj. The quarantine island is within (lie lagoon, aiul wishing to visit her hushai;u, although such visits aro prohibited, she clandestinely obtained a canoo at night and paddled out to the island, a- distance of about two miles. Wearing malo apparel she was taken tor a night fisherman, and no notice ws taken of the occurrenco at tho time.' Later the local police heard of tho visit,' and tho woman was discovered 011 tho island. All edict was issued, and the faithful wife whs prohibited from returning to the mainland,, and sho now remains on Moturakau as cook for the three unfortunates tlioro.
