Tho Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Lloyd-Ge'orgo, who is on a visit to Germany, has authorised a statement that ho has not yet arrived at a definite conclusion regarding the only object of his visit to Germany, namely: to seo whether the contributory system could, as far as invalidity and sickiile'ss are concerned, be grafted on to tho British old age pension scheme. i Ho is tremendously impressed with the perfection of tho system whereby Germany raises 34 millions sterling per annum for meeting invalidity, old a!ge, and sickness pensions, Wiilo tho State's contribution merely covers working expenses. When clerks and widows aro added to Germany's scheme—as is intended shortly—tho total raised annually will be 53 millions.
