MUNICIPAL ABATTOIRS.
THE PRESENT POSITION. \ The position regarding the establishment of municipal abattoirs tor the city is. jiist tho same as before negotiations, for at'last night's meeting of tho City Council,, the Abattoirs, Milk Supply, and Public' Health Committeo, reported that they had conferred with tho directors'of tho Banks' Meat Company with reference to their offer to sell.to tho council their site for municipal abattoirs, and that they w'ero unable to recommend tho 'acceptance of Ihc company's terms. Councillor Shirtcliffo fitiici that members had inspected tho two sites, and it vu thought that the Banks' site had spcci*l Advantages, and had the company been willing to negotiate at a reasonable price, the committee could have recommended tho purchase, but under their present terms, it was impossible to do so. Ho regretted that tlia position was as stated, but tho. company's valuation was much too high. The report was adopted. Tho Council wont into copimittee on the subject of negotiations. . . .
