HARBOUR BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the. Wellington Harbour .Board was held yesterday afternoon, thero being' present: Messrs. T. M. Wilford. M.P. (in the' chair), F. G. Bolton, J. U, Harkneji, C. E.' Darnell, M. Cohen, R. Fletcher, J. W. M'Ewan, F. H. Fraser. The chairman reported- as follows:—(1) That an Act bringing into force a consolidation of Tho H&fbours Act,. 1878, and its various • Amending _Acts, has passed both Houses of tho Legislature, and : that copiea thereof will be supplied to members is soon as tho analysis is printed. ''-(2) That judgment has been entered in favouV of the board in the action brought by the- New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd., to test : validity oi stop orders issued after receipt by tho board of the goods and'of delivery orders therefor. The Wharves and Accounts Committeo reported that ■ they recommend tho board to placo a further sum of £10,000 on fixed deposit for twenty-four months . with till National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd. The reports were adopted.— The statement of .accounts showed that the credit balances were: Current account, £21,295 Gs. 9d.; imprest account, £672; fixed deposit account, £60,000; The following payments were passed:—Sinking • fund and wages, £11,631 • 14s. lOd.progress payment's ' on/contractsj £3397 -16s. 5d.; salaries for August, £823 os. 5d.; total, ■ £15,852 16a. Bd. , T ' ••:. - 1 The board went' into 1 committee, and on resuming the • chairman reported that two tenders had been received for-the additions to the Rona Bay Wharf. He moved that the lowest tender bo' accepted,, and that the seal of the board be .affixed to the. accepted tender. The motion-was carried. The board was authorised, under the special powers conferred upon them by the Contracts Act, 1907, to acquire land; at Evans Bay for spoil purposes. A number of the owners accepted the board's offer for their land, but others declined the "terms, and yesterday it' was decided to acquire their land compnlsorily.
