A middle-aged woman named Christina Duncan pleaded guilty to a charge of pro-' curing bcor during tho currency of a prohibition order'. Defendant was convicted and fined 205., and costs 95., in default 48 hours' imprisonment! MISCELLANEOUS. . A middle-aged man named George Chas. Gordon appeared in answer to a chargo of having wilfully damaged linoleum, .three chairs, and two. pairs of curtains, of a total valuo of £8 16s. Gd., tho property of Marie Gordon. On tho application of Mr. Hind;marsh defendant. was remanded to Friday •inoxt. Bail was alloWed ; 'in tho sum of £10, and ono surety of £10. .' . V ■ Carl Otto Anderson pleaded not guilty to having, 'on July. 11, at Wellington,,attempted 'to'commit suicide. After hearing part of tho medical ovidcnco, accused was remanded to tho Wellington gaol, until September 4 for modical treatment. ' One first offender for drunkenness was convicted and discharged. . : s
CIVIL-BUSINESS. AN INSANITARY* BACKYARD. • Harry Spencer entered a'plea of not guilty to a 'chargo of haying allowed offensive matter to remain 'on his premises at Brooklyn, so as to caitse an offensive smell. •' Evidenoo showed that_ the objectionable matter had been juried in tho backyard of def-ondant's promises. Defendant denied that there was any,.offensivo smell, and also said ho did not ,bury the rubbish. After hearing tho evidence of the Corporation inspccto)',- his Worship reinavked' that a good_ deal was heard about fever and tho spreading of disease of late, ,and practices such as that; complained ,of wero just tho way to spread disease in: every direction. Defendant wdukl bo con-: vict-ed, aiid fined Ms.,_ and costs 75., in de-; fault three days' imprisonment. , ;
REMOVING SOIL AND SAND: Samuel Bray pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully removing soil from tho Ohiro Bay Road, so as'to cause injury to tho road. After hearing tho ovidence, and a pica for leniency by Air. O'Regan for tho dofenco, defendant was convicted and fined 205., and costs £1 Bs. Tho same defendant pleaded guilty to a further cliargo of unlawfully removing sand from Corporation property at Houghton Bay, but after it had been proved that tho land in question did belong to tho Corporation' defendant altered his plea to ono of guilty, and was convicted, and fined £2, and 'costs £1 8s; ' WANDERING CATTLE. • ■ For allowing horses and cattle to wander on the public streets fines were inflicted as follow :—Mrs. Alice Wioltham, 205,/ and costs 7s'.; George" Bell, Arthur Allan Lower, John M'Cabe, and Marniadiike Sedgwick, 10s., and costs 7s. j Victor' Hughes,- Jas. Wm. Henderson, and Hugh M'Kenzio,-. 55., and costs '7s. Johiij Lane and Richard John Tarr wore each convicted,,and ; ordered: te pay costs 7s. OTHER CASES. Chas. D. Mackintosh was convicted and fined 10s., and costs 75., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, for being tlio occupier of premises, tho chimney of which was allowed to catch firo.Jbhii'Stirup pleaded guilty to a charge of leaving a vehicle in Lambton Quay without some competent person l being in charge,' or without lacking tho wheel.' ' Defendant was co'nvictod, and ordered to pay costs 14s. Wilbert Coup, similarly.charged' in reference to a-vehicle left in Rqvans Street, failed to appear, and was convicted, and fined 10s., and costs 7s.' 'Tho default was fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment in each case. Albert Mildenliall,' charged 'with leaving a vehicle in Riddiford Street, was convicted, and fined 10s., and costs 7s.,'in default 48 hours' imprisonment. .
