WOODLANDS HUNT CLUB. At a special general meeting of the' Woodland Hunt' Club, held on Saturday afternoon, an account of £8 for additional costs in looking after th 9 hounds was passed for payment. Tho Chairman (Mr. J. Sweeney), who is also master, laid before the meeting a bal-ance-sheet showing-the result of the recentsteeplechaso meeting. He pointed'out that owing to exceptionally bad weather and other adverse circumstances what had at first promised to be a record meeting had actually proved the reverse, and there was a deficit ■ which left the club in debt. This could bo reduced considerably if the amount of subscriptions that were outstanding could be got in. Tho club's assets wero good, and by realising on them they could easily cover their liabilities, bub it meant selling tho hounds. This was not desirable, and lie thought that if they put their hands in their pockets, _ and the absent members were asked to contribute, they could meet their obligations and still retain their hounds. Ho would givo them an extra subscription of £2 2s. if others would follow his example, but although ho was not a rich man he would, sooner than sco tho hounds go out of tho district, pay up tho deficit himself. Mr. Geo. Bottomloy warmly seconded tho previous speaker, and handed back to the secretary his winnings on Shellfish. Tho secretary (Mr. Weston) donated his secretarial fee, and tho other mombers present following with various donations, tho chairman was ablo to report that something over £30 had »been collccted in tho room. Ho thanked those present for their spontaneous and sportsmanlike reply to his appeal, and warmly eulogised tho assistance given by tho mombers of tho Palmcrston branch, especially thanking Messrs. J. M. Berick and Mitchell for tho they had rendered in inaugurating and bringing to a successful issuo that branch. Votes of thanks woro_ also passed to_ the Chairman, who was resigning that position through business necessities; to Messrs. Buchanan, N. Avory, Mixted, and I'. J. Quirk for the use of their grounds; to Messrs. Shanno, G. L. H. Drow, and "Mack" Swainson for their assistance at the meeting, and _tot- thaEreaaj,
