KIIILED BY A FALLING TREE. Hunterville, August 25. A man named John Knccbone, 33 years of age, - was killed' while bush-felling at Pukcroa! yesterday. A falling treo skidded off an adjoining tree'and shot back, pinning Kneebonq to another, stump. Tho log had, to Bo : cut to _ extricate tho unfortunate man. Death' was instantaneous. Deceased's mother and sister aro in Australia, but ho has a brother iii the Dominion, whose whereabouts is unknown hore. , A NARROW ESCAPE. Palmerston North, August 25. A schoolboy , travelling between Lovin and Shannon-, by last night's Wellington' train had a narrow escape from death. Ho fell between a carriage and tho van, but" fortunately was seen by tho guard. Tho train was pulled up, and the boy was found caught in the'springs of the carriage. Ho had sustained slight injuries to his legs. INQUEST. ' L . Dunedin, August 25. At tho inquest on the body of A. E. Hoycock, found on tho railway, line last evening the jury returned a verdict that deceased met his death by being struck by a railway engine, but there was no evidence to show how the accident occurred.
