■ Miss M'Leany Principal of tho Wellington Girls' College, left yesterday for a visit to Canterbury. . . v Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Field, of Nelson, liavo boon sponding a few days in' Wellington on their way homo from Auckland. Every year the Ladies' Auxiliary Committee of tho Y.M.C.A. holds a huge tea in tho Town Hall in aid of tho institution's : funds, and each year they try to arrange the tables on some- novel plan. Ono year each table represented some- country, and the attendants were- dressed in tho various national costumes; another year thoy had some game represented at each table, but this year the idea is to bo prettier, and tho whole place will'look liko,a flower garden, as each tablo is to bear tho name of somo flower, and tho decorations and attendants (who are themselves always decorative) will correspond. The tea is to bo given in the Town Hall on Sopfcember 23. A Wellington , lady has been advised that Lady Wastoneys, formerly of Auckland, and for a time resident in' Wellington; has written a novel entitled ''Life's Wreckage,"which has found a publisher and will shortly bo placed on the market. The letter contains tho further news that tho publishers havo accepted another book from Lady , Wastoneys's pen, presumably on tho merit of tho first story. Lady Wasteneys, who is well known in England as a philanthropist, has a beautiful home in Sussex, and it is her wish to endow this as a home for poor gentlewomen. The proceeds of the salo of her novel are to bo devoted to this purpose. ,-■■ The Hutt ladies who have been connected with tho three enjoyable Cinderella' dances given this season at the Hutt are to bo entertained in turn by a number of Wellington gentleman at a dance in the Sydney Street Schoolroom, about the middle of next month. It is understood that great pains aro to be.taken to make this one of tho most delightful dances of tho year. Messrs. Beere and Riley have been elected honorary secretaries. . Her Excellency Lady Plunket will be present this evening at the dramatic entertainment to bo given in the Sydney Street Schoolroom under Miss Hardinge-Maltby's direction, and in aid of tho Lady Plunket Centre of the Girls' Realm Guild. \ Miss Glanvillc, senior mistress at NorseVootl School, has been selected as mistress o£ the, Woodvillo School. . Yesterday, afternoon Archdeacon Fancourt and Miss Fancourt gave an afternoon tea at the Hadfield Memorial Hostel. Among' other gues\s present were: Mrs Heaton Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Martin, Mrs. Maurice RichnWd, Mr. and- Mrs.. Balcombo Brown, Rev. E. Sheriff and Mrs. Sheriff, and Rev. T. H. Sprott and Mrs.Sprott. . '. Her Excellency. Lady Plunket . yesterday afternooiV addressed a meeting of mothers at St. James's, Newtown. It was quite an, informal little meeting, and it was rather a talk with\tho.mothers than an. address to them that Lady Plunket had. She told them of differenti cases where the use of humanised milk had brought a sick baby back to health, and aho gave a demonstration of the , wav.in this milk should bo prepared. It is worth, inentioning that tho first lot of milk brought for tho purposo would not humaniso, because it had been previously pas--teurised. A second lot was brought; and tho demonstration with that was entirely , successful. , The. mothers had been .invited to bring' their babies to tho meeting with them, and as a result some\beautiful children were to be seen, infants ahd older children who looked as though their up-bringing had. been conducted on., the "wisest lines. Ono particularly fine-looking child'was so very frisky that it supplied a cheerful bbbligato to many of her Excellency's remarks, and another, feeling that ho had passed the age when the subjects •under discussion'was;of importance to him, went to sleep,' and "during' his slumbers rolled on to the floor, which created aversion, and gayo a "nice homely' fueling to the • meeting. This afternoon Lady plunket will address a Eieetingof mothers ntithe.St. Peter's Mission Hall,'Taranaki Street. At St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, yesterday ";afternoon Mr. Edward R. Pyno, of tho Government offices, Wellington, was married to Miss Emily Banfield Michell, second daughter of Mr. T. B. Michell, chairman of the Lands Trust. Tho Riiv. Herbert Watson was the officiating minister. \ Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher, with her two littlo girls, leaves to-day for a visit to Blenheim. ■
