SYDNEY FASHIONS FORTHE FLEET
. Dressmakers in Sydney have been inundated with orders for frocks,to : be worn during;' Fleet week, and a good idea'is': given' of the fashions for the coming ■ season. At first glance, says the_ "Daily Telegraph," not much to choose is there between the evening gowns and the garden , party and race gowns. Every gown appears to havo a satin lining. Glase, it is interesting to note, has been voted' out of court altogether. Tho satin is very lustrous; charmeuso, Oriental, radiant, are somo of the ■adjectives employed giving an impression of lustrous sheen. Also it is not easy to say which is lining and which is tho skirt itself on somo occasions, as the gauzy-liko upper skirt lies so softly and transparently on tho satin that ono is incomplete without tho other. 'Wo shall see much galon, in gold, silver, copper, and tarnished gold. in all kinds of embroidery, for tho love of .such expensive tinsel grows apace, and evidently purses can bo stretched wido enough to pay for the finery. Simplicity of cut 1 and graceful- " clingsomeness " of lipe mark all tho hew gowns. They look as if they- were 'blown, together, and not sewn on a prosaic machine with ordinary thread.
Lace will be the leading feature of many an apparently simple, gown, and there aro many people, who giving two and three guineas a yard for the bertlies and flounces of their satin, ball-gowns. Really exquisite is the lace. Under the same heading comes tho filot embroidery, all of which' is quite of the moment. One of the great features of Fleet' Week; is ■ the all-over laco blouse. How protty they arc! And how neatly tho ready-made blouses fit! Ideal for wearing with a tailor-made, as they, give a dainty appearance to the cloth skirt and to tho coat when worn open, and if the weather he warm, the blouse is displayed in all its charming freshness. The prettiest of these arc mado in filot laco, with the yoke worked on the body of tho blouse all in one piece. They fit. tichtly to tho figure above the waist (no pouching is now allowable). They suit the matron of forty-sovon-and-a-qnartcr equally as well as the cirl of sixteen. Fashion has presented us with a boon in this season's laco blonscs.
