THE RIVAL SHOWS.
WAIRARAPA FIGHT PROCEEDING. \a corner in shorthorns. The sale of the Matawhero' shorthorn stud by Messrs. A. D. and E. 'M'Master to Mr. W. Howard Booth, of Carterton, writes our Wairarapa correspondent, is interesting in many ways, but principally because it marks another stage in tho.fight which .is at present going on between the Wpirarapa and Masterton A. and P. Associations, as to which body is to become the premier institution of the whole district. , Both parties are carrying on the warfare witn commendable energy and zeal. Each organisation has scored some good points, but. the' Masterton Association held a sort of "full hand" in cattle when it gained the support of Matawhero, because it was very well known that the Hawko's Bay breeders would never visit Carterton show to compote amongst themselves. The chances; were, therefore, that Hawke's Bay and Matawhero would meet on the Masterton' Show. • Grounds. Tho purchase of the Matawhero stud by Mr. Booth has practically dissolved this scheme, because Mr. Booth is one of the most active supporters of the Wairarapa show., By his purchase Mr! Booth has cornered the shorthorn stud market so far as Wairarapa; Masterton, and the Bush Districts are conccrned. Ho has scored the tricks, and no doubt the old triangular duel between Te Mount Herbert, and Matawhero will <r?ght'out again on the! Carterton SlKrw Grounds in October next. It is expected that some wealthy member of the Masterton Association may reply to Mr. Booth's coup with a purchase of shorthorn stud stock which will in a measure restore the balance between the rival districts. ■
