' Otaraoa appears to be nicely weighted in the Handicap Hurdles at Marton. Aeolus, Artillerie, and a largo contingent of horses from Lyttelton left by the .Moeraki for : Sydney * yesterday evening. Frisco and' Apa will not make the trip to Australia. Both, horses may be seen out at the Marton meeting next month. •The Stepniak gelding Sir Artegal will be given a run at the Marton fixture, and will afterwards be taken on to Avondale if the weights aro suitable. Further evidence in tha Tautiki inquiry will be taken in Auckland to-night, but it is not likely that tho inquiry will be concluded. • " C. , O'Neill has .been granted a trainer's license, and is'getting-, a team -together in "Palmerston North;'' Tho' horses _"at_ present in his charge are Valima,'Ben Glitters (Benzoin—Lucy Glitters), and Myrtle Brand (Firebrand—My Medal) ' The, New Zealand Cup candidates, Moloch and; Riflemaid, are doing useful work at Opaki. ' ■ • " „. . The three-year-old filly Campaign (Conqueror—Torpillo) has-been making a poor showing on tho tracks at Masterton, and she may not be persevered with. Her owner, . Mr. J. Cress, has, however, a smart fi}ly by Kilcheran—Eketerina Passeropoulo. . This ■ youngster is now in constant work, and has been doing some splendid gallops. ' She will probably make her first jippoaranco in tho Wellesley Stakes at tho Trentham Spring meetingj ■ ■ SIRES OF THE SEASON, At the Waikanae Stud during .tho present season hotb Achilles and Kilcheran will be at the services of breeders,'who will thus have an excellent opportunity of suitably mating their mares. Achilles. ■ ■...• jichilles (Medallion—Nereid) is very familiar to all race-goers. No more genuine horse was ever foaled, and he was always, consistent. His performances are of too recent a date to need recapitulation, but it is safe to say that no horso in New Zealand performed like him. During the six seasons that he raised ho proved an undoubted champion, and won over £9000 in stakes. Any horse that has gone through such a protracted racecourse career'and emerged from it sound and with credit, is deserving of tho attention of breeders. But' Achilles has other claims also for he is a beautifnl chestnut, and for bone, power and range he has no superior.; Moreover, during his racing career he showed his ability to, stay as well as to gallop fast, and always evinced tho greatest courage. "He comes-of tho same family as those successful sires Nordehfeldt, Goldsborough, and. Robinson Crusoe. Approved mares will be taken to him at a fee of thirty guineas.

Kilcheran. . Kilcheran is quite a good stamp of horse. He is a handsome bay, that carries himself well and shows balance, power, and quality. On the English turf he was an exceptionally brilliant .horse, winning over £3000 in stakes and registering excellent times in. different . races. His' best times for six furlongs were lmin. 114-ssec. at Brighton, and lmin. 12,1-ssec. at Manchester. These are perforj ' mances to boast of, and it will follow almost ; as : the night the day that Kilcheran's stock will be exceptionally brilliant. Some of his youngsters will be racing as two-year-olds before, long. So far as looks are concerned; they cannot bo beaten,, and reports' credit them with showing- great galloping ability'. This is -natural, however, for his pedigree is one long'list of winners. He is by Kilwarlin (winner of the 'St. Leger, and halfbrother to Bendigo) from Emita (dam 1 of His Lordship and Emotion), by Galopin (winner of the Derby and, sire of St. Simon) from Burgundy (half-sister to Merry Hampton— winner of the Derby—and own sister to Gay -Hermit, winner of tho Goodwood Cup, etc.) by Hermit (winner of tho Derby), and so on. Traced right back, Kilcheran springs fr°m. tho same family as those great sires Gladiator, St. Frusquin, and Gay Hermit— a family which is at present represented in Australia by San Francisco (sire of Elevation). Kilcheran's list is rapidly filling, but a. few approved marcs can yet be taken to him at twenty-five guineas each. At the Waikanao stud there is abundance of good grass land and shelter, and breeders may with absolute confidence send thoir ttost valuablo marcs to this stud.
