The first opinion—that something ' had happened to her machinery—is now giving place to graver fears, .owing to the prolonged absence of news of the vessel. The steamer Lord Sefton left San Francisco on August 2.for the sarile ports as the Aeon, excepting Napier, and it is possible that she will have news of the missing steamer. The Lord Sefton is scheduled to reach Auckland on August 31. The Yeddo\ which left Newcastle last week, is also searching for the missing steamer.
