WELLINGTON CATHOLIC CLUB.
HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The twentieth half-yearly general meeting of the Wellington Catholic Club was held at St. Patrick's Hall, Boulcott Street, last, evening, there being about fifty members present. Mr. A.: H. Casoy (vice-president) occupied the chair. The half-yearly repprfc was read and adopted. The main, features of tho roport have already been published, and, in addition, it contains the following:—"lt is with sincere regret that we have to announce the loss of the services of the Rev. Father Bowden (president), who has found it necessary to sever his connection with the Society owing to insufficiency of time at his disposal to devote to the duties of tho office. A Junior Literary and Debating Society has been formed during the half-year undor the presidentship of Mr. S. J. Moran. Tho, vacant position of librarian has been filled 'by tho appointment of Mr. 6. Schmidt. Tho now officer has effected several improvements in the library. During the half-year Messrs. H. S. Seward and' E. T. Ryan severed their connection with, tho executive; the former on.his departure to Australia "and -the latter on account' of urgent private business. The vacancy created by Mr. Ryan's resignation was filled by the election of Mr. B. Leydon. Since last report collectors' books havo been reissued, and a brisk canvass is now • in. operation for promised donations. The Committee hope to commence 1 building operations at an early date. At the annual conference of Federated Catholic Clubs, held in Auckland at Easter, the club was represented by Messrs. J. J. Callaghan and J. M'Gowan. ; "The membership of the club continues to increase steadily. During the hnlf-ycar 11 now names were added to tho roll of membership." ' The following officers wero elected:—Patron, His Grace Archbishop Redwood; president, Very Rev. Father O'Shea; vice-presi-dents, Rev. Fathers Kimbell, Goggan, Venning, Rev. Brother Justin, Messrs. M. Kennedy, C. P. Skerrett, J. J. Devine, M. O'Connor, A. H. Casey, E. J. Fitzgibbon; spiritual director, Rev. Father Venning; secretary, Mr. J. M'Gowan ; treasurer, Mr. M. O'Kane; executive, Messrs. J. J. and J. W.:, Callaghan, F. Hickmott, A. Searie, B. Leydon, E. Reichel, H. M'KeowenJ 0. o'Hare, H. Rees; auditors, Messrs. E. J. Fitzgibbon and F. P. Kelly. . The iheeting, _ which was. very enthusiastic, concluded with tho usual votes of thanks.
