There has boen phenomenal scoring in the county cricket , matches, ' twenty-nine centuries having been recorded in eight days, including ten this week. Surrey, scoring 532 for. eight wickets (Marshal 167), beat Kent by an innings and 318 runs. , 1 Essex made 573 for nino wickets against Northampton. M'Gahey scored 230. Middlesex put on 534 for eight wickets against Notts, Tarrant's contribution being 144 (not out). v Lancashire scored 506 against Leicester, Tyidesley scoring 243. COLONIALS' SUCCESS. On July 0, the. Victorian, Tarrant, was eleventh on the English batting averages list with 41.45 (Jessop being top with 54.81), and was ninth on the bowling list with 81 wickets at 15.30 runs a-piece. On the samo day, Haigh headed the bowling list with (19 wickets at only 7.86 runs a-piece, Hirst being next with 95 wickets for 12.27 runs,'A. E. Keif'third with 77 wickets for 12.76. This is Tarrant's fifth century this season. ' The Qucenslander Marshal's IG7 is his second century this season. On July G he was twelfth on the' bowling averages list, Rhodes and Blythe beipg between,him and Tarrant. At .that date Marshal had taken 33 wickets, and his average was 16.G3. Tyldeslisy on the'same day was eighth on the batsman's list, with 42.15, closely following Hay ward. (43.17).'
