SHEARERS' ACCOMMODATION.
MANAWATU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION PROTESTS. At a ; meeting of' the Manawatu A. and P. Association yesterday (says a Palmerston Press Association message), Mr. "\V. F. Jacobs, 'referring to the Shearers' Accommodation Bill,, stated it was of a most drastic nature. It simply' meant that employers would have to find a five-roomed house for shearers, at. a cost of over £200 for a few weeks each , year. They would require to find dining room and sleeping rooms for shearers, ; .a sleeping • room for the cook, a bathirfiom,' and a kitchen. '.He moved that the Association strongly protests against the Bill, which is quite uncalled for, and .and if carried will inflict a grave hardship andquite unnecessary , expense on sheepowners, especially the owners of .small flocks, in having to provide buildings .which will only be needed for a few days in tho year; and that tho Association also -respectfully protests' against ' -Bills of' this character, which -seriously' affect tho agricultural and pastoral industries, being'referred to the Labour Bills Committee, to take evidence; and report on. 'Further, that a copy of tho resolution be sent to-the Prime Minister and the Minister for Labour,; and 'that Mr. W. T. Wood, M.P. for Palmerston, bo asked, as.; vice-president of the Association, to oppose tho Bill in Parliament. The motion was carried, unanimously.
