At tho meeting of tho Trust Land Trustees on Friday evening, a special committeo waß set up to deal with tho question of lengthening tho term of the trust loans. Tho St. Patrick's Day Sports Association executive met- on Friday night, and decided to hold a social in tho latter part of September. • CARTERTON. On Thursday the Dalefield Club, and the Royers tried conclusions at a football match on tho Recreation Ground, for a dinner, the game resulting in a tie, 6 points all. Mr. F, Roydhouso was referee. Tho Schoolboys defeated 01d v Boys lin a match in Mr. Morris's paddock, v on the same day, by 3 points. Mr. Higgiiis was referee. . The contractor is taking full advantage ; of tho glorious weather to push on the street improvement contract, and tradespeople in High Street are delighted with tho progress being made. The Secretary of the Fire Brigado acknowledges with thanks the receipt of tho sum of £2 17s. 6d., tho balance over from the County ball proceeds. OTAKI. The -building trade is brisk here at tho present time, and carpenttrs aro having a busy season right through. The To Horo Maori Minstrels gave an entertainment at Te Horo on Friday night, and were greeted with a' bumper house. The programme submitted was a good one, and many leading Natives took part. An enjoyable dance followed. . The weather hero for some time past has been delightful, and there is consequently plenty of feed. Snow on tho hills, however, has a tendency to causo frosts, but luckily these are only of a light nature. A meeting is to bo held at Manakau at an early date to decide upon somo function to celebrate the opening of tho new post office. 3 It is rumoured that- [ojio of our representative footballers has decided to throw ill his lot, should ho bo" needtid, with tho professional team now being organised in Petone. Other local players are contemplating doing likewise. Glorious weather continues hero still, the light frosts being 'followed. by blue, cloudless! skies. Rumours are afloat at' Foxton that whitebait may bo seen in small quantities in the rivers-there. -Tip to tho present there has been no sign of tho fish'hi the'local streams. Tho Orchestral concert and dance, held on Wednesday night, proved a success. The concert programme was a good one, and each item . drew 1 forth prolonged applause. Tho funds of the institution will benefit considerably. Credit is duo to the secretary (Mr. "C. Jones) for tho efficient manner in which ho worked. A new shop is being erected in tho business portion of the town, and will bo utilised -by Mr. M'Meokan, baker, as refreshment rooms.
