An English doctor who was travelling from Tangier to Fez, after witnessing a fight between tho tribes Bcnaouda and Ermiquo, entered tho territory of tho latter against the advice of two of the Maghfccn's soldiers.

Tho Ermiquo captured 'him' and accused him of commanding some of tho Bonaoudans in tho recent fighting.

Criors immediately proclaimed a holy war, and the excited tribesmen tortured the doctor to death.
