DANCING CARNIVAL.
A- very-largo audience was present in tho Opera' House last evening, when the ballet ".May Day," arranged.by Miss.Estollo Beoro, was, performed by close on one hundred children. Tho .' whole- entertainment was very charming indeed, tho dresses being dainty and pretty, tho dancing exceedingly 'clever) and the colouring, sebem'o well carried out. The children seemed to enjoy themselves immensely, and looked as though they could have gone on dancing all night. The llorris Dance, given by sixteen performers dressed as shepherds and shepherdesses, was a quaint old English dance, and was stepped with staves, gaily decorated with ribbons, to tho merry sound of bells. . The sailor's hornpipe, danced by, a little girl, Miss Lynno Edwards, dressed, as a sailor, was-well,done,-and had to be repeated, as, indeed, had nearly every other dance on tho programme. Littlo Miss Kathleen .Speed and Miss Marjorio Wilson delighted everybody with their Danco Caprice. The Folly Danco was a very dainty thing, for littlo girls in white with pink sashes performing. The Spanish Dance noxt followed, with Miss B. Field dressed for her part. The limelight, added immensely to the effect., The Rustic Ballet, by 14 boys and girls, tho latter-being dressed for their parts in Kate Grcenaway stylo, was very quaint and pretty, but tlio danco following, May Fairies, was perhaps one of the prettiest dances, and certainly the ono most, enjoyed ,by those present.. All those who had danced in the previous one remained on the s'tago with branches of blossoms in their hands, forming an arch,, and through this passed' sixteen or eighteen tiny littlo boys and girls, dressed in white, with pink sashes, many of them not being moro than four or five. "They were most amusing, and very pretty to watch. The Bell Dance, by Margaret Eraser, was exceedingly well done, and so. was a dance by Peggie Reeves, a tiny little mite, dressed as si Columbine in white with pale blue. 'Tho Dutch clog danco, given by Maisio Geary, Doris Greville, L. Edwards, Kathleen Speeu, and Marjorio Wilson, was very quaint, arid so was tho clog dance by Doris Greville. and Maisio Geary. The Gipsy T.irantelle,, danced by eight performers, dressed in Gipsy costumo,. was. very bright, their tambourines' being very effective. Tho tableau "Tho Crowning of tho Queen of May," and a verse recited by Sirs. Sutcliffe, brought tho first part of tho programme to a close. Recitations wero then given by Mrs. Sutcliffe and a song by Mr. Harold Widdop. Two little girls 111 red, Lynno Edwards and Doris Greville, were vivid littlo , figures in their Dance Madcap, and two' tiny, little figures mites dressed in court dress of tho eighteenth century danced as Dresden Figures with stateliest graco imaginable. Miss Marjorie Wilson in her' March Militaire was particularly clever, and the, audience could not have enough of her.' It is seldom. 0110 comes across such freedom of movement, spring, and vjm—to watch her was a delight. "Fairie Rose" was a very pretty performance, tlio littlo palo green dancer, Maisio Geary, being most grac'ul. Next followed an Irish ballet, by ton'boys and girls in Irish costume. Tho Seauntreus was danced by Doris Greville to . tho sound of bagpipes, and then a Highland Fling, by Dorothy Hall, the entertainment ending with a very pretty and graceful performance of tho Fan Danco by six performers.'
