Missßosina Buckmann arrived in Wellington last night, and is tho guest of Mrs. F. P. Wilson, at. Kolburne. Miss Buckmann will shortly be leaving for Australia.

Mr. and Mrs.' Mawloy, of Ditton, Master ton, aro at present over on a visit to Sydney

Mr. and Mrs. S. Graham, of Christchurch aro at present on a visit to Wellington.
Miss Mcikleham, of Melbourne, who has been on a pleasure visit to Wellington, was to leave Wellington for Auckland by this morning's train.
'w Stato Ball in connection with Fleet neel; at Auckland appears to have, excited great interest in the northern city, and thoso who , attended for tho sake of sightseeing were well rewarded. It was by 110 means unalloyed joy, however, to thoso fond of dancing. Tho guests invited totalled 1000, and the response was, so unanimous that there wis a.good deal of overcrowding from a dancing point of view. Still the arrangements wero.as good as they could bo under the circumstances, and .tho proud possessors of new ideas, in gowns which escaped notice in tho great crowd will havo the satisfaction of knowing that they will appear as now at the next social function to bo attended. Her Excellency Lady I'lunket woro a handsome trained gown of . cream satin dtichessc, with full bertlie-and front panel of silver-seqnined Limerick lace. Sho also woro her beautiful diamonds. The Hon. Kathleen Plunket was gowned in gold tissue, a la Empire, the corsago finished witli gold and black flowers. Lady Ward vas beautifully gowned in old rose satin, veiled with cream net, with appliqued border of guipuro .laco, and touches of old rose velvet. The squarecut corsage was outlined with silver embroidery, aiid a white osprey caught' with a diamond star made a becoming - head-dress for her.
Tho championship of tho Shirloy Ladies'. Golf Club,; Christcliurch, has been won by Miss N. Campbell, Miss-tt Kettle being run-ner-up.'! Tho first grade medal resulted in a win for Mrs: T. Cowlishaw, Miss A. Humphreys being second. The .engagements are announced of Miss Malvino' Clarke, daughter of Mr. J. J. Clarke, Hokitika, to Mr. Warren, of tho Survey Offico there, and of Miss Maimie Mooro, • second daughter of Mrs. Moore, Hokitika, to Mr. Burton, of the Survey Department. Colonel and Mrs. Moore (England) ■ are at present :in Nelson, ! and are staying at Warwick House. . Miss Fitchett, Dunedin, will be leaving for England towards tho end of this month. The engagement is announced of Miss A. Malfroy, of Hokitika, to Mr. Temple Spain, of Feilding. Mrs. F. F. Munro, of Westport, won the golf championship; of tho West Coast. .Mrs. Taylor, widow of the late Mr.. Archibald Taylor, Stipendiary Magistrate of Taviuni. and Commissioner of tho Supreme Court of Fiji,-is oil a, visit to her daughter,. Mrs. J. W. Watkins, Dainpior's Bay,. Lyttelton. Mr. Edwards, Stipendiary Magistrate of Ponang, Fiji, and Mrs. Edwards, are also staying .with Mrs. "Watkiiis. ■ Miss Elsie Wilson, of Lyttelton, who has been on a holiday visit to Wellington, returned ;homo yesterday. •
