THE BIBLE IN THE SCHOOLS.
NEW YORK TEACHERS' RESOLUTION. Tho New York Correspondent of tho London "Standard," writing on J«I.V 2,^ states:— 11 American teachcrs and the Public Schpol system as a body the sKularisation of schools by the elimination of Bible teaching. Tho object lesson taught by the practical results of ignoring religious teaching in tho elementary schools is too patent; it is seeii in tho relaxation of discipline, and moral principles 'among children in tho cities urgently necossitaing tho need of reformatories and police court punishment for juvenile depravity. The efforts of professional and voluntary religious organisations to provido religious teaching in public schools are uttorl.v inadequate. Yesterday tho National Education Association, the only representative body of the nation's school teachers, adopted the following resolution 1 We hope for such a change in public sentiment as will permit and encourage tho reading and study of the English Bible.'"
