Mr.-.-T. W. Kirk, Government v Biologist, lectured at Cheltenham on Wednesday evening on " Grass ■ and ,Crops y. Weeds."- In . the qourse of an interesting talk Mr. Kirk said :that not one of the pests, animal or vegetable,; that afflicted the country :was indigenous to New. Zealand. They were all imported. Samples., of weed seeds in grain, grass seed, ami chaff were handed round among those present, who seemed surprised at the proportion of rubbish in specimens of oats and cliaff. Ono samplo of Danthonia was shown, of which fully naif was' rubbish.
