BOXING.

1 DISQUALIFICATION OF A MEMBER, (BT TELEGItAPH. —SPECIATi CORRESPONDENT.) Hastings, August 11. Regarding the disqualification of. W. S. Fagan as a member of the Hawke's Bay Amateur Boxing Association, Mr. W. .G. Jaeger (lion, secretary) states that, at ias( night s meeting a great , deal of indignation ■was expressed at the manner in which Mr. Fagan had been treated by the. governing body. He remarked that the. Wellington Boxing Association would .not' grant a recommendation for the affiliation of his Association unless Mr. Fagan stood down, onlj a verbal reason being given in confidence tc him (Mr. Jaeger). To sparo trouble Mr. lagan resigned. The local Association had smco tried unsuccessfully to got an official intimation of the reasons for the Wellington Association's action, the committee having every reason to believe that tho verbal charge was unfounded. At last night's meeting of his Association, the chairman (Mr. S. F. Haszard) and himself were instructed to see tho matter through, as it involved a matter of principle not lightly to bo brushed aside. A NEW ASSOCIATION, The Horowhenua Boxing Association is the latest body to be formed, 'l'ho Association has applied for affiliation'to the New Zealand Boxing Council, and the Wellington Boxing Association, which controls that' district,' has recommended that' the application be granted. The newly-foriued body intends to hold a competition at the Town Hall, Levin, on Wednesday, September 16, when bouts in the following classes - will be foughtßantam, feather-weight, lightweight, welter, and middle-weights. Sis rounds will be fought'of' two minute's, or in tho event of four or more men competing the rounds will bo reduced to four of two minutes. The prizes will be medals or trophies of the value of .£3 3s. In addition special trophies will be donated by the Horowhenua Association. Visiting competitors are to have their expenses refunded.- . Tho Association has instructed Mr. W. Coffey (Wellington) to act- as its. delegate at the 'conference of the Boxing Association to be held at Christchurch on August 19.
