IDY TBLEGBAFH—MESS AOBOOIATION-l NO-LICENSE. REPLY TO MR. HARNETT'S INDICTMENT. Christchurch, August 11. At a moeting of the Christchurch tery to-day the Rev. J. Mackcnzio moved "That in view of tho near approach of the local option poll the Presbytery directs tho attention of the ministers, sessions, and mem* bers of tho Church generally to the fact that the General Assembly has again and again affirmed the principlo of no license, and urges them to take practical steps in each congregation to secure an increased no license voto at tho forthcoming poll." A short discussion ensued, two or threo speakers strongly criticising the action of the manager of the Anglo-Welsh football team in making an indictment against no license, whon the behaviour of tho team over which he had control was so far from being exemplary. Tho motion was put and carried unanimously.
A LONG PASSAGE. THE STEAMER AEON. • Auckland, August 11. The Aeon, of the Australian Mail line, il making a very long passage from San Francisco to Auckland, via Apia. The average trip of the steamers of this lino is about twenty-five days, and tho Aeon is now thirty-five days out, a fact which is causing some uneasiness in shipping circles, as it is feared that an_ accident may have befallen tho vessel, which holds tho record of the line between -San Francisco and this port. News of tho Aeon will bo anxiously awaited. SEARCH FOR THE HAWEA. Auckland, August 11. Tho Flora left Auckland at 7 oclock thii morning to search at tho Three Kings for. tho overdue steamer Hawea. If unsuccessful, she will report at Capo Maria Van Uiemen for instructions as to whether she shall zigzag across the Tasman Sea to Newcastlo. The Haupiri is now searching up th< coast, and will extend her search as far at tho Threo Kings. Tho Huddart Parke steamers are also keeping a look-out. CORONATION ANNIVERSARY MESSAGES. Auckland, August 11. Sir Joseph Ward cabled to tho Secretary of State for the Colonies on Saturday congratulations to his Majesty, on tho anniversary of his coronation, from Government and people of New Zealand, and received the following rep]y_ to-day through tho Governor:—"His Majesty has - received with much- pleasure congratulations from tho Government and people of Now Zealand, and commands me to thank them." REMANDED. Duncdln, August 11. At the Police Court to-day William Keldariff who was remanded last week from Gore on a charge of assault on Constable Herlihy at Waikaia, was further remanded for a week. Two charges, meantime,, have been preferred against Keldariff—one of obscene language, and the . other of assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty.
