RECENT GALES.
SHIPPING ON NEW SOUTH WALES COAST: KOMURA'S TRYINC TIME. OIL USED WITH GOOD EFFECT. (BT TELEQEAPH—PBESS ASSOCIATION —COPXEIGHXj Sydney, August 10. The steamer Komura—which, according to a previous cablegram,, was taken in Jow, by the Noorebar—has been towed into Newcastle. She left Brisbane on Tuesday night, and shortly afterwards ran intp a strong south-easterly gale, with high seas. The steamer, which was flying light, had a bad time from the jump, and made little headway against the high wind, tho mountainous seas beating her almost to a standstill. •, Tho galo held through Wednesday and Thursday. At night' when off tho Solitaries she was found to be drifting. The weather moderated on Friday morning, when an examination disclosed that the steamer had lost three blades of her propellor. Tho steamer drifted throughout Friday and Saturday. Oil bags were used with good effect to keep down the .tempestuous seas, the gale having again increased. Efforts made to attract a passing steamer and tho lighthouse failed. On' Saturday night tho Noorebar saw the Komura's rockets, and. came.to her assistance. Tho captain attributes the safety of his vessel to the use of- oil. All on board bad an anxious and trying time. PILOTS CARRIED ON. ■ " Sydney,. August 10. Owing to rough weather preventing their landing at Brisbane, two steamers brought their Brisbane pilots to Sydney. ' THE LORD STANLEY. (Rec. August 11, 0.13 a.m.) ' Sydney ."August 10. , The overdue steamer Lord Stanley has signalled to the Seal Rocks that she is coming south. Her condition is not reported. She has evidently been delayed by the gales. A heavy sea continues, and numbers ;of vessels are weather-bound.
