M'Gowan, tho Hon. J. A. Millar, and the Hon. G. Fowlds in Auckland. Mr. Barclay, M.P., went South last evening. Mr. Horries, M.P., left last evening for Christchurch. Mr. E. Clifton, Chief of the Stock Department, left for the South last evening. Mr. T. W. Kirk, Government Biologist, will leavo for _ Cheltenham to-morrow. Ho intouds delivering a lecture there to farmers. Captain T. W. M'Donald, Adjutant of tho Wellington Volunteer district, is visiting Foxton on matters connected with tho formation of a new corps. Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., is to be tendered a banquet by the people of Oliariu oh Saturday; August 29, at Ohariu. It is expected tho Prime Minister will be present.

Mr. W. C. Kensington, Under-Secretary for Lands, will leave for Waipawa to-day in connection with the encroachment of the river at the Forest Gate and Lindsay settlements. Mr. A. Mills, late inspector of stock at Wellington, will bo in charge of the Weroroa State farm during the absence on sick leavo of Mr. Drysdale. Tho latter will spend two months at llotorua. Miss Rosina Buckinan, the talented soprano, who is to sing tho part of Marguerite in Gounod's "Faust" at tho Town Hall on Monday nest, has accepted an engagement with Musgrove's Opera Company. She is to leave Wellington for Melbourne on Friday week. Mr. Monagban, who is retiring from tho Government Printing Office on superannuation after thirty, years' service, was on Saturday presented with a silver-mounted umbrella and walking-stick by the companionship of tho time staff. Mr. H. B. Mason, the oldest member of tho gathering, made soijie kindly references, and Mr. Itogers, supervising overseer, mado tho presentation.
