A CONSTABLE. INJURED.
(BI TELEOEAPIi.—Sl'ECtAr, CORRESPONDENT.) Dunsdin, August 8. . A few days ago,. ..Constablo Herlihy, of Waikaia,. was badly hurt. A man who, it is alleged,; was using disgusting, language on- the railway works was approached by the constable, who deemed' it his duty to give a warning, whereupon the.-man, it. ; is alleged, damaged the constable's hand with a bottle and then violently butted Herlihy in the chest.-'A Southland' paper' reports that the .man; '.was 'arrested at. Gore, . taken before'-thd"Magistrate, and escorted-to Invercargill; wherp.'he was remanded to-ap-pear on Tuesday. In view of the.serious de-. velopments of the constable's injuries, it is probable • that a' ' further remand will be necessary.■ He is suffering from pleurisy, brought'dn; the doctor thinks, by the blow on the - chest. . A peculiar fact about this case is that Constable Herlihy was very badly' hurt by a blow on the head with a bottle eight years ago.
