Yesterday was a very fine day, and brought a large gathering of people out to hear the Fetoue Citizens' Band play a number of pieces on the Petono Recreation Ground. The scheme brought forward by the Hutt Council to erect a gas plant is meeting. with considerable opposition. _ Petitions are being circulated around the district and, meetings called. When the question comes up at tho Council meeting to-night, things are not expected to go quite smoothly. - ; Mrs. Harrison Lee commenced her antiliquor crusade in the Hutt Electorate on Saturday evening, when she addressed a meeting in tlie Town Hall, Upper Hutt. Mrs. John Whiteman presided. In the course of her address, Mrs. Lee . pointed out how the tradespeople were taking up this question, instancing Masterton, where a No-Licensa Leaguo has been started amongst the shopkeepers. A statement that, one Ashburtou grocer had benefited by over £2000 since No-Licenso had been challenged, but the grocer referred to'had written to the Press stating his books were open to inspection, and that he would give £10 to tho hospital if anyi one could prove he had not benefitc-d by over £2000. Mrs. Harrison Lee strongly commended the Labour leaders for their attitude towards .the "trade."., Tlio workers
were building mansions for the brewers, by pulling down their own homes, declared Mrs. Leo. The revenue question was dealt with. On Monday evening Mrs. Lee gives her address, "A Voyage Round tho World" at Lower Hutt..
