AUCKLAND'S GUM LANDS.
That tho gumfields of Auckland are 'by no means the poor lands they used to be represented is shown by an exhibit at the Industries Exhibition (says our Auckland cor'respondent). It comprises a collection of roots grown on the gum land between Birkenhead aud Albany. Tho roots consist of purple-top turnips weighing from' 101b. to 121b. each, and carrots-weighing 21b. and 31b. each. They are shown by Mr. John Knight, a recent arrival from Scotland, who is evidently tho right class of man to assist in tho development of New Zealand, industries.
