Several objections wore made by the latter 011 the ground that their customers would bo kept waiting. Messrs. Ciiddio and Gilruth returned to Wellington yesterday from Kimbolton. The cheque to bo handed to the Hospital Board as - tho proceeds of the recent performance of the oratorio "Elijah" amounts to £64 10s. Id, With the Government subsidy the total accretion to the funds will be £140, an eminently satisfactory result. The total' receipts wero £171 125., and the expenditure £107 Is. lid. , . MASTERTOU". There was a fairly largo attendance yesterday at Mr. Humphreys's sale of dairy stock near Woodside. About sixty cows and alarge plumber of two-year-old heifers, all said,to bo springing, were placed under tho hammer, but owing to the majority of them, being lato calvers complete clearances wero not effected. The reserve on the heifers was rather high, and only three' were sold. Of the cows, forty odd were sold at. an averago price of £4 lis. per head, and prices ranged from £3 2s. 6d. to £6 ss. for cows, and £5 ss. to £5 7s. 6d. for heifers. Total sales aggregated, £196 12s. 6d. Messrs. '. Dalgety, and Company, Ltd., were auctioneers. \ ■ The number of .prohibition orders in force in the Masterton electorate is seventy-three (says•' a Press Association message). All have been issued during the past year, and are an increase of about twenty over tho previous year. Very few orders in, force here have been issufed in other electorates. CARTERTON. On Wednesday night the Parkvale milk suppliers gave a most successful and enjoyable social to their many .friends. Among those present was Mr. Buchanan. Mr. Ray-, ner sang "The Wild Colonial Boy," and Messrs. W. Toomath and Annesley also contributed to the programme: Extras wero played by. Miss Ellise Simpson and Miss Oates.' Owing to the wet weather, many Carterton singers could not be present.'The floor was crowded with dancors, and there were many spectators. The music was by Miss Berrill (piano) and Mr. R. Crawley, (cornet). 1 . FEATHERSTON. ' At Carterton this, afternoon the Thursday Junior representatives were defeated by the Saturday .Thirds by 3 points to nil. Mr. E. M'Kenzio was referee.
A pleasant long-night dance was held on Wednesday evening in the Town Hall, under the auspices of tho Firo Brigade. The atr tendance was fair, and music was played by Mrs.. A. Burt (piano), extras being' played by Mesdaraes E. Cundy and H.. Wickens. Messrs. C. Lust and A.' Higgison were M.C.'s.
Groat preparations are being made for the annual social of the Liberal Football Club to be held next week. \ . .
