WAIHI GOLDMINING COMPANY.
A TELLING EXHIBIT. ' (BY: TELEGBAPH.—SPECIAL' CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, August 6. . ' At the local Industries Exhibition which, was opened yesterday the mineral .wealth of the Dominion is represented, by theWaihi Gold Mining Company in a central position. This company oxhibits in a simple manner, which has nevertheless a tolling offect on a portion of. the ■ product of their magnificent mine, and somo figures which show, its great, record. 'On the floor space are stacked a number of ingots of pure silver. Each ingot weighs IOOOoz., and tho stack represents but a minor part of the wealth won in a single' month. A specimen of crude. sulphide ore, very rich in yield, is displayed on one. podestal, and on another is a model of a bar of pure gold, as refined.by tho company' at. their own works. 'Tho regularity' with which the monthly return's from ; 'tl)6 Waihi mine havo increased since Lao inception of the company'is shown in a. striking way by the figures exhibited. Interesting comparisons are practicable from tl: : s table, 'as, for instance, tho fact that • tho bullion won this year to date already jxifcods the total won in 1901. The latter ; gear's output was £461,205, whilst tho first seven months of this year are represented by a yield of At the foot of the tabulated returns is the grand total of tho valro of gold and silver.' won to date, namely, £6,773,777. Of perhaps greater interest is a framed display of half a dozen chcqut-s made out for-tho amounts paid to shareholders in tho company in dividends. From 1902 to 1907 those cheques total over £2,000.000, and are respectively as follow:— 1902, £225,880 15s. 3d.; 1903, £312,756 3's. 4d.; 1904, £317,013 55.; 1905,'£346,228 10s. 3d.; 1906, £397,244; 1907, £428,618 19s. Figures are also given showing the total amount that shareholders will havo received in • dividends to . Septombor 1 next at £3,144,376 13s. Bd. This exhibit must inevitably bring home to visitors to the Exhibition some facts as to our mineral resources that have riot probably been fully realised. .
