Tho -following resolution was' passed"That the " North -Canterbury Educational heartily' approves of thothreo cardinal principles of the Education Amendment Aot now beforo tho House as outlined bolow: (1} the reduction in the number of grades of schools whereby tho danger of. reduction to. salary due to circumstances over which teachors have no control, and arising from fluctuations in average attendance is largoly minimised. (2) "tho principle of annual increments as offering an .incentive "to earnest effort on tho part of teachers and - thus tending to increased efficiency in tho servico. (3) tho improved staffing regulations, especially as regards tho substitution of trained assistants for untrained pupil teachers." It was decided to forward tho" above resolutions to tlio Minister for Education and the chairman of the education committeo. Eoss, in the chair, and reviewed tho Education Amendment Bill which is now beforo Parliament. . Tho Bill was discussed at somo length, and it was oventiially decided: That this meeting views with pleasure the advantages embodied in the Education Bill, and while in accordance generally with its principles, takes exception to (1) salaries of teachers still to bo liablo to reduction as a consequence of tho decrease in attendance; (2). tho Bill's rating of the relativo responsibilities of head teach" ors of medium-sized country schools..and of, assistants in tho larger.city schools-as being detrimental to the head teachers of tho 'medium-sized country schools. Tho president received a voto of thanks for the information which he had. supplied on the subject.
