BOXING.
WELLINGTON CENTRE. The committeo of tho. Wellington Boxing Association held a meeting last night, Mr. R. W. M'Villy presiding. Tod M'Gibbon and Doss Burns notified tho acceptance of tho conditions in connection with tho contest between them on September 1. F. W. Kerr asked for a match with Morgan of the Physical Culturo School as a cur-tain-raiser on ,tho" evening of September 1. It was decided to inform tho writer th&.t the contest- could not be _ arranged as the. event was confined to pupils of the school. l The instructor of' the school intimated that .Thornton had been 'selected to meet Morgan. The selection was approved. The Hawke's Bay Association asked the committeo to approve of the following programmes:—August 26, Gault v. Murphy for purse of £50 and £10 expenses; October 7 and 8, amateur championships for medals. The programmes were approved. The Marlborough '. Association intimated that owing to unforeseen circumstances it would bo represented by only olio representative, A. Thompson, ' middle-weight at tho New ZeMand Championships. It was resolved to inform tho Hawke s Bay Association that their registration was approved on the distinct assurance that a gentleman named was not a member of the Association, and, that- ' tho Wellington Association declin'ed'to reopen the matter. The'lion, secretary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League thanked tho committeo-for its assistance and its gear for tho displays in' connection .with the naval demonstration on July 27. . - " The Otago'Association wrote stating that it intended holding a : tournament of six round bouts in' September and were inviting entries for tho ' different centres.The secretary reported that ho had supplied information relative to. several intending competitors. The' Manawatu Association notified tho committeo that its programme for the forthcoming tournament was as follows: —Tracey (Wellington) v. Rollo (Manawatu) ' 15"rounds; Hale (Wellington) v. M'Dowall, (Manawatu); Shields (Manawatu) v. O'Brien'; ' (Taranaki); Watchhorn (Manawatu) ,vi 'Lovegrovo -'(Taranaki); and Scobie (Manawatu) v.- Williams' (Manawatu). , Mr. T. Sampson was appointed manager of the Wellington team for the New Zealand Championships. V It was : decided that the Chairman', and Secretary should represent the Association at the Conference to bo held during tho-cur-rency of the Championship meeting. . The Treasurer and Secretary were deputed to officially- represent tho; Association at the Manawatu .Association's tourney on Wednesday, night. It was agreed, to write to Mr. W. F. Corbett- (representative -of -the Association in Australia) as to:the likelihood of tho services; of Sid. Sullivan being availablo for a contest with a New ■ Zealand- competitor, yet, to ;'bo selected,- -at the/.Opera House on; November,24. ' '. ,' . With . regard ;to . matters , which '.will.; be brought up at the' forthcoming Conference of delegate's of the Associations throughout the Dominion, it was resolved as follows:— (1) That in : the event , of' tho New Zealand Council being unable - to''meet -.the liabilities in respect of the expenses of- sending a team to any Australian championships held outside 'the Dominion, the-Association agrees to a general levy being made on the various Associations-;'.'. (2) ' that no man be reinstated without tho concurrence of the Stato which imposed tho disqualification; (3) that each Association should do what it considers best in the interest :of .the sport in tho matter ..of -the valtio! of tho prizes to bo awarded iji amateur, contests, and tho size of tho purse for professional'matches. . • . ■' ' NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS, TELEGItArn—PKESS ASSOCUTIOX.) It was decided that entries chould closp on August 15, and that the local ontry .should not be confined-to those selected, it being recognised-that,others might be desirous lof competing. . .'
