In conseqnonco, liev departure has been postponed till to-day. NORTHERN S.S. COMPANY. PURCHASE OF THE TASMAN. A Press Association message from Auckland states that the Northern S.S. Company havo decided to add two steamers to their fleet of coastal steamers. Mr. C. Ranson, general manager of tho Northern Company, stated, that the company had just concluded tho purchase of the steamer Tasman, of the Anchor Lino, trading across Cook Strait.. The Tasman will bo delivered to tho Northern Company at Wanganui about the middlo of next month. Tho Northern Company is also preparing' to build Snother steamer, which is to bo 10ft, longer \an tho Ngapulii, and will carry from 50 to 60 more passengers than that vessel, while her cabins will bo on tho same scale as the Rarawa's. The departure of the A. and A. linor Stephanotis . for Lyttelton has bcon deferred, till Monday. It is reported that the steamer English Monarch has been fixed to load case oil at Now York for Now Zealand.. Yesterday at noon the Mapourika left Westport for Nelson. She is expected to' roach Wellington to-day. Cant. A. J. Emslie, late of the Wainui, is relieving Capt. W. Madden, of the Oonah, who ■is ashore on holiday leave. ' To-day the Union Company's steamer' Komata is expected to leave Wellington for Westport. Tho Kamona is fixed to leave Westport to-day for Wellington. Yesterday the Kaitangata was expected to leave Greymouth for Sydney and Newcastle, with a cargo of timber. Noxt week the Taiori leaves with a similar cargo for Adelaide. It is understood that the Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Whakatano's departure for Waitara will bo postponed from Monday till Tuesday next. A short time back tho ship Dochmont was loading at 'Wellington for London under the auspices of'the Scales Line of sailing vessels. Tho vessel arrived Home safely, and has been chartered to load at London a general cargo' for Australia. According to tlio Christchurch "Press" tho> old coal hulk Marie, which was towed from Wellington to Lyttelton some years ago, lias been disposed of by tho Westport Coal Company to Mr. M. J. Miller, who has lifted out nor big iron mast and "stepped" it in tho Blnclnvnll. Tho copper is being stripped from tho sides of tho Marie, and her gear has been romoved. Mr. Miller intends to havo the old vessel towed across to one of the beaches at Purau, where she will bo set fire to with the object of securing a large quantity of "kneos" and other iron work useful to a shipwright, from tho hull.

Miss Grace Kennedy, who lias been aivay from New Zoaland for tho last eighteen months, announces that sho will return during tho first week in August and will resume teaching in Wellington. For several months past Miss Kennedy has been in Loipzic, and whilst thero has had the advantage of private tuition from Professor Hans Sitt, the woll-known composer and teacher of the violin at tho Royal Conswvatoriuin of Musio in that city.
