FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The City Council liio't last'night. Present: —The Mayor AV. Hislop), and' Councillors Luke, C'ohcu, Ballingcr, Hales, ShirtcliiFo, Fletcher, C.irmichaol, M'Laronj Hindmarsh, Morrali, and Fisher, M.l\ Tlio Rates and (jity Reserves Committee recommended thatjcabbago trees be planted* along tho parade' at Island Bay; that hot water (salt) baths be installed at tho Thorndon and To Baths, and reported that they had received a further application from tho Wollingto/i Football Association for permission to take up collections on tho Basin Reserve duriiig the present season, and would recommend that the previous resolution of the Council regarding their first application ■be adhered to. .Councillor Luke mentioned that it was proposed to invito applications for the position, of j director of tho Zoo at a salary of £200 per jnnum. Tho report was adopted. ' Tho Abattoirs, Milk Supply, and Public Health Committee recommended that notices bo served,'in accordance with the recommendation of tUs Public Health Department, upon owners qrid . occupiers of certain properties. The repoj't was adopted. Tlio F[iianec and Property Committeo rccommoncjod that tho unleased land at tho old Corporation offices in Featherston Street bo advertised for leaso by tender at the upset rental fiied by tho Committeo; that a compassionaio allowance of £30 bo rnado to Mrs. Feely, widow of a late Corporation employeo; .that a'gratuity of £1 per week for one year, and 10s.' per wool; thereafter bo granted, during tlio pleasure of the Council, to Mr. Jerry .Fearn, ari ; old Corporation employee, now incapacitated from further work. ,Tho report was adopted. Tlio Firo Brigade Committee recommended that|tenders be called for tho erection'of additions and alterations for tho Thorr.don Firo Station, tenders to closo August 13. Tho Mayor moved that tho matter be referred to the Finance Committee to go into the question as to ways and means. They must seo that 'they did not go beyond their means. Councillor Ballinger: "I thought tho matter was settled. . I-object to tho matter being delayed." The Mayor:' "It was not decided when the building should he erected." Tho mjitter .was referred to tlio Financo Committee. "
